Every summer I drive to a berry farm an hour away from my house to buy some raspberries and blueberries.
Buying from the store you get 12oz for $3-6.
At the farm we get it for $1 a pound! So for 16oz it’s $1. Super cheap and local. Plus super delicious and healthy.
Since it’s so far away I usually stock up and buy around 50lbs and freeze for winter. I sort through the raspberries and blend it up with sugar. Every 50lbs of raspberries you would need 30lbs of sugar (or preferred sweetener).
If you have strawberries you can add those to the blend too.
Once it’s frozen, when you need it just take it out of freezer within couple minutes you can use a spoon to get as much as you need out without having to defrost all the way.
You can add this to smoothies, make kompot (homemade juice), use as pancake syrup, or add some to your hot tea. We love it. Kiddos love it. Sometimes we pretend it’s ice cream and eat it straight out of the freezer 🙂 If you get sick in the winter eating couple spoonfuls will boost your immune system and help you recover quicker.
Raspberries are high in fiber and Vitamin C. Low in calories. It promotes healthy immune system and protect from cancer cells.
For the blueberries I freeze them in ziplock bags. I’m not a huge fan of frozen blueberries, I mostly buy some to eat fresh but they are also great as a frozen snack, or adding to smoothies or oatmeal breakfasts. I will be freezing some this year although the raspberries are a bigger hit at our house.
Blueberries are also high in nutrients and low in calories. Antioxidants, vitamin K, vitamin C, magnesium, and fiber all picked into a small blueberry. Blueberries are known as the highest antioxidant out there. Protecting you from cancer and other health diseases.
Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
